The third edition of the ACE Awards will be celebrated during an Awards Ceremony on Friday, 9 October 2009, in Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina, during the 18th European Workshop on Voluntary Action.
The Awards will once again recognise the invaluable contribution of individuals or organisations who have proved to be outstanding pioneers in voluntary action and Active Citizenship. The ACE Awards will recognise their achievements in improving the lives of their communities, either locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.
Across Europe there are thousands of charitable events and projects and it seems that award ceremonies are becoming a popular way to promote and acknowledge the work of these unsung heroes, such as volunteers and project leaders. Last year's Awards Ceremony, held in Genoa, Italy, on 31 October 2008, proved to be an outstanding celebration of remarkable individuals and organisations involved in voluntary action.

The Volonteurope Secretariat hopes that the ACE Awards will also encourage European countries that do not have a strong history of Active Citizenship to get involved with volunteering in the future and will provide an inspiratiuon for a collective European identity.
