Volunteers battle the grounds of Alton Castle
Volunteers from the Staffordshire Moorlands Volunteer Centre
spruced up the grounds of historic Alton Castle, which attracts
7,000 children each year.
What was the activity?
Volunteers cleaned and painted dormitories and did gardening
in the grounds. The volunteer's hard work and enthusiasm was
rewarded with lunch and refreshments on the day.
How did it make a difference?
More than a third of the children who visit each year are from
disadvantaged backgrounds, so the work of the volunteers for this
project was of great importance to the local community. The
dormitories that were revamped are used by children who stay at the
castle during residential activity visits.
