Organising an activity is great for building up
transferable skills for your CV or UCAS application, and you'll
make new friends and challenge that pesky 'hoodie' youth image
which so annoyingly prevalent in the press.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
• Host a Fairtrade Fashion Show - ask your mates to help you design
or collect fairtrade clothes, and then organise a catwalk show to
let everyone know how fabulous fairtrade outfits can be.
• You could clean up a local waste ground and then organise events
like football tournaments or a community fete.
• How about a Halloween Party? You could hold one for local
children, elderly people or other isolated groups. Make
decorations, pumpkin soup and wear ghoulish outfits!
• Care about something locally? Whether your local park needs more
facilities, or to stop your local youth club being shut down, start
a campaign and invite local MPs or councillors to a debating event.
Invite the press and get more exposure on your issues!
• See a local eyesore? Get your mates together and paint an
underpass or a playground.
• How about sharing your skills? If you can update websites, do
some gardening, teach people how to breakdance or even sail a boat,
you can bet we can find someone who can learn from you. Get in
touch!
