Year of the Volunteer 2005 is now officially over
We are leaving some information up about the year here for reference only...
____________
Year of the Volunteer 2005 was created to help people try the things they love: to brighten their life, help their career and make a difference to the lives of others.
It was a year-long celebration of the work volunteers do and a call to action to get more and more of us volunteering.
CSV, Volunteering England and the Home Office worked in partnership with lots of voluntary sector organisations to create a dynamic year of volunteering opportunities.
YV05 Awards
Throughout the year people had the chance to nominate outstanding volunteers for a Year of the Volunteer award - a specially struck commemorative medal from the Royal Mint. 2005 recipients were selected and in October, November and December they received their awards at regional ceremonies supported by Lords Lieutenants and local authorities.
The five overall category champions for the year were awarded a trophy at the Year of the Volunteer Celebration event on 22 January at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. The champions were :
Commitment: Vivien Kent (Yorkshire and the Humber)
Impact: Lynn Hill (London)
Innovation: Paul (Oscar) Brogden (North West)
Inspiration: David Godly (South West)
Partnership: Emmanuel Fuh Neba (East Midlands)
