12th January 2007
L-Plate gardening is a new course which will offer an introduction to the essentials of organic cultivation in an urban setting.
In essence it is "shoestring gardening without space".
The course is open to anyone and it will involve a 15 week programme to take the absolute beginner to the point of being able to begin their first allotment. If you don’t have such ambitious plans and you’d like to grow lettuce in your window box then this course is still suitable for you.
L-Plate gardening will run from 22nd January 2007 at Cadbury College on Masshouse Lane, King’s Norton, Birmingham, from 10am-12pm every Monday.
Sessions will be comfortable, informal, friendly and open. The programme will run whether the weather is good or bad since it is composed of both indoor learning and practical hands-on outdoor work. You can shape the course to be more or less practical to suit your needs.
By attending the 15-session course you will:
• Build up your confidence to grow your own food
• Gain skills and practice using them
• Learn what to do, and when, in your garden
• Learn good techniques to grow vegetables
• Learn about why we like to grow vegetables
• Network with other gardeners, e.g. plant swaps, seed swaps, harvest shares.
The principles of L-Plate Gardening are that it will:
• Get you started
• Be very simple
• Let you know that you are not alone
• Be yours
• Teach you the key to success: good planning!
• Allow you to grow the foods that you like.
