A visual and audio recording of the cultural heritage of Arsenal FC during its 83 year history at Highbury Stadium and radio footage produced by prisoners of a day in the life at Wormwood Scrubs are amongst the catalogue of community media projects being showcased by the CSV Media Clubhouse in Islington at a celebration event next week (Thursday 30 January).
The CSV Media Clubhouse in Islington provides affordable media training, mentoring and job assistance into the media industry for those who are excluded because of lack of training or economic and social deprivation. The CSV Media Clubhouse also promotes active communities by giving local voluntary organisations media support including training courses in media as well as video, print and website production.
Matt Bray, Manager at CSV Media Clubhouse in Islington says: “It has been an excellent year for the Clubhouse with students and volunteers producing a wide range of media, both for their own portfolios and for the community. I hope the showcase inspires more local people to gain important media skills which can help them spread the news of their important community projects.”
Community media projects being showcased on the night include:
• The Arsenal heritage project: To link in with last year’s move of Arsenal FC from Highbury, the club’s home for 83 years, to the Emirates stadium, volunteers and students took photos of the area and interviewed residents to record the impact of the club and stadium on local consciousness.
• ‘Heroes and Legends’ and ‘A Day in my life’: A selection of pieces from inmates on CSV’s radio programme at HMP Wormwood Scrubs, including “.
• MediaZine: A quarterly community magazine dedicated to promoting diversity and encouraging new opportunities in journalism written by students and volunteers at the Media Clubhouse.
