Training for Teachers

Action 4 Sustainability is currently developing, in conjunction with the Highland Council Education Department, a long-term programme of CPD for Highland teachers to train to educate for sustainability.

This programme is known as Elanor's Roadshow, and consists of four stages.

  1. Preliminary stage -
Incorporating sustainability into your schools development plan
We have produced guidance for both primary and secondary schools to be able to straightforwardly insert suitable information into their school development plans.

    Select Primary Guidance

Select Secondary Guidance - Stage 1

Select Secondary Guidance - Stage 2

  2. Stage 1 -
Introductory course 'Sustainable development: what is it and how can you get it in your school?'
This is a course that Action 4 Sustainability offers in conjunction with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and Highland One World Group.

It gives teachers a really good opportunity to define and explore the concept of sustainable development with other participants, as well as many of the key resources that are available to support developing sustainability activities. The course also gives a chance for participants to recognise and assess their school's and their own progress in this vital area.

This course is one day long, and will be delivered in the 2006-07 sessions in venues around Highland. We can also arrange this course as a twilight session for your school or your associated school group.

  3. Stage 2 - Intermediate stage
    Starting to specialise
Register your interest in Elanor's Roadshow programme by emailing Elanor at elanor.gordon@highland.gov.uk.

Action 4 Sustainability will be coordinating a selection of other training opportunities in specific subjects such as: Eco Schools, WWF Pathways, waste education, energy education. Although these are still under development, you can register your interest in these courses above.

  4. Stage 3 - Advanced Level
    Longer term study
Again, like stage 2 courses, these are under development with other providers. We will offer opportunities such as online courses, in different subject areas.

If you are a Highland teacher and you would like to see some training to educate for sustainable development for you/your school other than what is listed, contact the project coordinator Elanor Gordon at elanor.gordon@highland.gov.uk to find out what can be arranged.
