CSV Education is part of the two year National Peer Mentoring Pilot, funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
CSV staff work with 41 schools in the South Central and South East regions providing ongoing support, offering training for students if required and giving them the tools to create sustainable peer mentoring projects in the future.
The mentoring projects implemented by schools are focusing on a range of issues including attainment, bullying, behaviour and transition from Key Stage 2 to 3
Information gathered from these programmes will be used to disseminate a wealth of good practice taking place in the pilot schools, and provide valuable information on the impact of peer mentoring.
CSV Education also provides Network Days and training opportunities for the schools in their region. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of student empowerment and the development of pupil potential through leadership and active community involvement.
In 2007, 15 schools attended a Network Day at the University of Surrey in Guildford, where they provided outlines of their programmes and shared good practice.
2008 will see some 200 students attending four conferences with the theme ‘Developing and Progressing Leadership Skills’.
