SHINE
CSV Learning Together with SHINE is a research project aimed at measuring the outcomes and impact of one-to-one tutoring in literacy, numeracy and ICT at Key Stage 2.
Funded by the SHINE Charitable Trust, the project involves 80 student volunteers from four universities across London: University of Greenwich, Kings College London, Middlesex University and London Metropolitan University.
Student Tutors provide support for 160 disadvantaged children from four of the most deprived London boroughs. In addition to raising pupils' academic achievements, self-esteem and motivation, the project aims to provide pupils with positive role models and introduce them to the world of Higher Education.
Originally a two-year project, CSV have been successful in securing a further year of funding to continue the project until August 2004.
