A partnership with a local school allows employee volunteers to develop personal competences, gain great satisfaction and support the local community in which they work.
CSV provides recruitment support, training (between May-September), security (including Criminal Record Bureau and reference checks), on-going support, monitoring and evaluation.
Primary School Volunteering
Volunteers spend up to an hour a week (usually during their lunch hour) in a primary school generally supporting literacy and numeracy. School staff find that volunteers help children with their communication skills and confidence as well as raising their academic achievement.
Mentoring
Volunteers spend up to an hour a week (usually during their lunch-hour) mentoring a teenage student from a secondary school. Most mentoring projects aim to encourage students to raise their academic achievement, aspirations and self-esteem, as well as give practical advice and support for revision and studying.
eMentoring
eMentors give support and encouragement to young people by sending and receiving at least one email per week. eMentoring enables employees, who may not be able to commit to a regular timeslot out of the office, to volunteer with young people. As well as providing academic and pastoral support, ementoring helps develop a young person's literacy and IT skills. CSV hosts its own secure web-based ementoring system: www.csvmentoring.org.
