The Birmingham Environmental Contracts (BEC) team works to enhance school grounds and other community green spaces.
Specialising in the transformation of local eyesores and under-utilised land, projects have ranged from creating wildlife gardens and boundary features to organising community clean-ups. We also offer ongoing maintenance of schools grounds, community gardens and other sites. We always seek to engage local residents and schoolchildren in consultation, design and delivery. Our flexible approach means our service is accessible to organisations of all sizes and resources.
Project Examples
BEC have worked at various locations, including: Turning Point Zephyr drug rehabilitation centre in Saltley; Hatchford Brook Infant & Junior School in Solihull; and various projects for the Small Heath Housing Liasion Board. We have also worked on local environmental clean-ups, including a series of workdays along the River Cole in east Birmingham, and the televised ITV Big Clean-Up at the Ackers outdoor activity centre.
Our clients include area health authorities, housing associations, local authorities, rehabilitation centres, youth clubs, housing liaison boards, local neighbourhood forums and private individuals.
What BEC can offer
BEC aims to provide a unique landscape design service, with a focus on improving the local environment for the benefit of the community. We tailor projects to a client's specific needs, and can offer a wide range of user engagement: for example, we can lead schoolchildren through a full design and delivery programme, including classroom and outside work; or by providing a complete project management service, with minimal input from the client.
Additionally, for schools and community organisations who are struggling to secure capital funding for their project, we can help identify and source local funds, including providing support with the application process where appropriate.
