Want to go to university without doing the exams?A number of the individuals that CSV full-time volunteers support are students at college or university. Volunteers help with getting around, note taking in lectures, accessing social and leisure activities, cooking and personal care. Volunteers often live on campus; with all the perks of student life. Ashley is currently supporting Vickas, a student at Essex University:“CSV allowed me to channel this desire to help someone. As I was to take a gap year from academia to allow my mind to have a break, volunteering was a good answer. The project chosen for me was right up my street, as I had already been to university, I could easily fit in to the lifestyle and the routine was second nature. This meant that my social circle wasn’t just big, but now vast. It was so easy to meet new people on campus and better yet, there are so many different nationalities here too which made everyday interesting”.
“What I have learnt to do while on this placement was basically three things. Learn how to aid another with enthusiasm, have lots of interaction with the outside world and be flexible in various ways"."Sometimes I help Vickas go to lectures on campus. This has helped me take an interest in his lectures such as political theory, which is good to learn about especially that at the end I don’t have to take any exams”.
