Legacy Fund
The Legacy Fund aims to build on the work of Capital Volunteering by continuing to support activities which, through volunteering, increase social inclusion for people with severe and enduring mental health issues.
The maximum amount awarded per application is £3,000 over one or two years. This amount is likely to be occasional and exceptional and most awards are expected to be made in the region of £1,000.
In addition, the fund specifically supports service user led approaches and activities. By service user led, we mean that activities and approaches should have involved a majority of service users in its planning, running, and review (50% or above).
The sorts of projects that the Legacy fund could support might include:
- A smoking cessation project led by a service user (training for the service user, equipment)
- A group of mental health service users developing their own volunteer allotment and gardening scheme
- A group of Mental Health Service Users to run their own volunteer run local sports team
- A user-led arts exhibition in a community facility
- A service user led music group/band
- Self-help or peer support groups
- Information services run by service users on wards, in day centres or at GP surgeries (materials, expenses)
- A cycling or walking project organised by one or more service users.
A panel made up of two CSV staff and six service users meet quarterly to assess applications. Applications must arrive by the last working day of March, June, September, and December of each year. Applications arriving later than this are put forward to the next available round.
The aim is for successful applicants to be informed within 6 weeks of each deadline.
