We work with schools, community groups and play organisations across the Bristol area to deliver Out to Play activities, working to enhance the potential for play in outdoor spaces in a variety of ways.
Play Rangers
Play Rangers is part of a Lottery funded package in Knowle West. It is divided up by the council to provide open access inclusive free play to children who may not be accessing any play provisions.
PlayPods funded by Urban II have been installed in Knowle West Health Park, Willmott Park, and Hartcliffe. These containers have been placed in parks where the Play Rangers work so that larger equipment is available and a greater variety of activities can be provided.
We are working closely with Knowle West Health Park, linking to their exercise and healthy eating sessions, and Knowle West Media Centre, contributing to their Carbon Neutral project.
With the expansion of our Outdoor Play and Learning Resource Centre, and an expanding team of qualified and experience playworkers, we are well equipped to provide exciting and varied play to many more children and young people in south Bristol and beyond.
Puzzle Island
Puzzle Island is an innovative new game for children designed to encourage play and exploration out and about in the local environment. Within a set of playful scenarios, children physically navigate Puzzle Island - a mysterious island in their own local environment.
Exploring ideas, completing fun tasks and solving challenges as they go, the children who participate in the Puzzle Island game will earn magic credits & rewards that can be exchanged for items and clues to help them further with their quest. Through the course of the game they will reveal their own unique stories and add their ideas, developing the intrigue of Puzzle Island.
Through the playful scenarios the Puzzle Island game facilitates problem-solving, creative imagination and co-operative skills in outdoor settings; it is a game based in play and discovery in nearby natural environments.
Puzzle Island operates both nationally and locally in Bristol, S. Gloucestershire & N. Somerset. We work in partnership with different groups to deliver relevant play activities and events, providing the all the resources needed for the game, – but of course, each island is of its own making!
Outdoor Play Resources
We are developing a lending library of specialist resources for outdoor play, available for organisations to borrow for a basic membership rate.
