Are you tired of seeing litter, vandalism and graffiti spoiling our streets? Imagine your neighbourhood with safe, clean streets, attractive gardens, flowers and trees. Imagine a community where everyone looks out for each other and can get things done for themselves. The Street Champions programme will help make this dream a reality in your neighbourhood!

CSV Environment, Birmingham Environmental Partnership and Birmingham City Council are working together to develop and support individual champions who can help make their community a better place to live in.

What is the purpose of the Street Champion scheme?
The Street Champion scheme assists and supports residents who are concerned about their environment and want to help make improvements.

How can Street Champions improve the environment?
Street Champions can help improve Birmingham by reporting environmental problems. They also have the opportunity to make their views count and to have more contact with the council on environmental matters.

How does the programme work?
Street Champions are operating across Birmingham, with a particular focus on those neighbourhoods where litter and other problems are most acute. There is a network of Street Champion Co-ordinators, experienced Champions who can offer support to others in their neighbourhood, and co-ordinate the recruitment of new Street Champions.

If you are interested in becoming a Street Champion, please contact CSV Environment in the first instance, who can explain the process and assess eligibility. All new Champions will receive training and support, a reporting log diary and a reporting telephone procedure, direct to the council, to get those environmental problems cleaned up and removed.  Each Street Champion also receives an audit form to help keep track of the state of the environment in their street.

Activities
Activities are jointly organised and run by the Street Champions and the back-up team.  Projects already successfully completed include:
• Street clean-ups
• Planting bulbs and bedding plants
• Planting up tubs and hanging baskets
• Fence painting
