Run a Muck, a community composting and recycling scheme, has been run since 2002, aiming to support Birmingham residents in finding a better use for their household and garden waste.

Until recently our main focus has been on doorstep collection of green garden waste, but with this service now provided by Birmingham City Council, we are now concentrating on a range of specialist services.

These include: collecting from streets inaccessible to BCC collection vehicles; providing a comprehensive bulk waste recycling service to a few neighbourhoods; promoting recycling to groups and individuals; and running an innovative pilot to turn domestic waste cooking oil into fuel.

Be Resourceful campaign

Be Resourceful is a community-level communications campaign to support the launch of the new kerbside recycling collection service provided by Birmingham City Council.  Targeted across the city at neighbourhoods with the greatest potential for improved recycling rates, the project aims to significantly increase participation and tonnage of recycling and re-use services, and support residents on waste minimisation and reduction.

The project involves canvassing 40,000 households across the city, and Run a Muck staff will be calling on residents, schools and community groups over the summer months.
