28th February 2008
Spring is springing into life and a bright new initiative, L-Plate Gardening, is starting up to coincide with the growing season of 2008. L-Plate Gardening is a structured programme of learning sessions in organic gardening methods being run weekly from now until September by CSV Environment’s Surinder Kaur-Sohanpal. In addition to the practical training Surinder will provide, the group of budding gardeners and veg-growers will visit established organic gardens, and should expect to sell some of their home-grown produce at farmers’ markets in the local area.
It is hoped that the course, on Lower Tinkers Farm near Northfield town centre, will inspire those who take part to go further with their interest in gardening, perhaps by completing further training, or renting their own allotment.
This new programme grew out of the success of previous organic gardening projects – Concrete to Coriander and Growing Gains run by CSV. But the L-Plate Gardening was also driven forward by support from CNSW – Community Networks South West, the local development agency set up to support community economic regeneration following the closure of the MG Rover plant at Longbridge.
The L-Plate Gardening training project is open to all that have an interest in gardening and could commit to attending the set of weekly training sessions from March – September 2008.
If you are interested in taking part, or would like more information, please contact Surinder on 0121 327 4945 or email surinder@csvenvironment.org.uk
