CSV’s Outdoor Play & Learning team in Bristol are busy creating an outdoor adventurous guided discovery game that can be played in any outdoor space! Puzzle Island is a new innovative game which will stimulate the sense of adventure and outdoor exploration in any young participant.

Imagine… in a school grounds somewhere… Chris and Alex have crossed the invisible river and have arrived at the edge of Puzzle Island. Looking down they spy a spade and a pile of soil. They decide to dig. Uncovering the treasure chest, inside they find a piece of map and the numbers 3 and 6.  Looking around they see a glade of three small trees to the left, and a six small toadstools to the right in a circle. Which way to go??? The game begins…

Using a set of playful scenarios the children continue to physically navigate the mysterious island. They will explore ideas, solve challenges, complete fun tasks. In doing so they will earn magic credits and rewards that can be exchanged for items and clues to help them further with their quest. Using problem solving, creative imagination and co-operative skills, they will reveal their own unique stories and add their ideas to the game.

Currently, material is being developed for the game and CSV is piloting the new activities and resources throughout 2008, and will be launching later in the year. Puzzle Island will be available as a mobile project nationally, but initially across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. We can provide resources, training and valuable experiences to both children, young people, playworkers and educators alike.
