Allies in Islington Independent Visitor Service
The role of an Ally is that of a befriender rather than a mentor, i.e., the role is not goal-oriented and does not have a set time limit.  An Ally visits, befriends and advises a child or young person who no longer lives with parents and is the care of the Local Authority.  The Ally agrees to meet with that child or young person regularly for a few hours and share agreed activities over a long term to build a trusting relationship.   The child or young person does not necessarily live within the boundaries of that Local Authority and may be placed anywhere in the country.
