Celebration event, 22 January 2006
Many volunteers and partner organisations who helped make the Year of the Volunteer a success were invited to attend a Year of the Volunteer celebration event in London on 22 January 2006.
The afternoon was compered by news presenter Jon Snow and awards were presented by celebrities including June Sarpong, Dawn Steel and Sally Lindsay.
Volunteers were nominated for an award in one of five categories (see below). The overall Champions of each category was announced at the event and are as follows:

(North West)
Inspiration: David Godly
(South West)
Partnership: Emmanuel Fuh Neba
(East Midlands)
Background to the Awards
The Year of the Volunteer Awards acknowledged and celebrated the contribution of volunteers in England.
2,005 commemorative medals werestruck by the Royal Mint and were awarded to the 401 most deserving volunteers in each of five Award categories:
• Year of the Volunteer Award for Innovation
• Year of the Volunteer Award for Commitment
• Year of the Volunteer Award for Impact
• Year of the Volunteer Award for Inspiration
• Year of the Volunteer Award for Partnership
CSV, Lord Lieutenants and County Councils arranged ceremonies up and down the country to present the medals.
