The UK's leading volunteering and training charity.
CSV's Social Action Media team works across the UK to promote volunteering in local communities, especially engaging with the over 50s, low income families and minority ethnic groups.
Our extensive network promotes campaigns in local areas via the Action Desks on BBC local radio, helps people to use the internet and raises awareness of the digital switchover.
Our volunteers engage others through one-to-one support, local events and radio publicity; some are retired and want be active in their community, others volunteer part time to suit their lifestyles.
We can also help you to recruit volunteers in your local area to support your project. BBC local radio has over 10 million listeners every year, and we have helped over 20,000 projects to engage with volunteers. Local radio inspires others to get involved and empower the community to take positive action.
CSV was delighted to raise awareness for the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion campaign (EY2010).
Through brokering relationships between a wide range of organisations and community groups working with people in poverty, we were able to use community media from radio, video and photography to share ideas and best practice and to develop new pieces of collaborative work to combat poverty and social exclusion.
While the campaign is no longer running, the media that was produced throughout EY2010 remains poignant and meaningful. Audio recordings from radio, videos, publications and images all go towards dispelling myths about poverty and social exclusion and offer real insight and solutions.

The CSV Action network can help you to get involved in volunteering or find volunteers for a local project.
We work with 36 BBC local radio stations, inspiring local people to get active in the community.
As part of our partnership with the BBC, we run the Read Hear and CSV Community pages on BBC2’s Ceefax service.
Our pages publicise issues that matter to local communities, updates on disability and charity news, and much more.
